Robert Mirabal さん。
絶対おすすめ、彼のライヴのステージとか、たぶん一生忘れられないくらい素晴らしく圧倒されるはず。
Robert さんが日本の和太鼓にも造詣が深いので、お会いした時には、向こうから「コンニチワ」と話しかけられ、うれしかったんだけど、あまりに緊張してたので、えっ、と一瞬頭が真っ白になったのを覚えています。
彼のバンドのチェロ奏者、Michael Kott さんに、食事に連れていってもらったり、ライヴに連れていってもらったり、とてもよくしてもらった。
この人のチェロの演奏がすさまじくいい。
先住民女性のアーティスト、ジョアン・シェナンドーさんのライブに一緒に連れて行ってもらった時、そこでマイケルさんもシェナンドーさんに呼ばれて飛び入り演奏。もうシェナンドーさんも胸に手を当てて涙流すほどだった。
ここでもチェロ演奏で入ってる。
とにかく、サンタフェの町は全体がアドビー建築という美しい街。サンタフェ大好きの人は多い。私も、ニューヨークよりはサンタフェに永住したい。
たくさんの文化と歴史が混ざりあった美しい街、歴史を勉強するだけでも深いーって感動できます。
ということで、今日は Robert Mirabal さんの音楽を通じて Native American History & Culture を少し学びたいと思います。
Robert さんは New Mexico の Taos Pueblo で生まれ育ちました。Pueblo の先住民の人たちの住居は世界遺産 (World Heritage Site) に指定されています。
Robert さんは、そのタオス・プエブロのひとたちの伝統的な音楽と舞踊に、現代のハードロックなどの要素をハイブリッドさせた独自のスタイルで圧巻のステージ、ぜひ本物を見てみてほしいな。

先住民のダンスは、聖なる儀式とは異なって、だれでも Powwow の祭りに参加してみることができます。すばらしい衣装と踊りの競い合い。迫力あります。

この歌は、最初にミラバルさんが語っているように、そんなに昔ではない過去、私たちの先祖はその土地と家から切り離されることを強いられた。強制移住に、同化政策の寄宿舎制度、そして収監、さまざまな旅と試練、その孤独と悲しさ。歴史に思いをはせてみましょう。

ミラバルさんはフルートの制作者でもあります。スミソニアン博物館にも展示してあるはず。
もうニューメキシコにステイしていたのは随分前のことですけど、Robert さん、若い時も、歴史と伝統を大切にして、Taos の美しい自然の中での生活を大切にする生き方は、やはりかっこいいですね。
アメリカ先住民のお祭りであり、ダンスのコンペティションでもある Pow-wow にいってみよう。
ダンスもすごいですが、屋台も大好きで、先住民のたくさんのジュエリーや、あと食べ物がとてもおいしい ! 先住民のフライブレッドや鹿料理はお薦めです !
